Roald Dahl's Marvellous Children's Charity

At LifeSearch, we’re beaming with pride that we can support a charity whose namesake was an icon and an inspiration for so many of us.
From Charlie and the Chocolate Factory to Matilda, The Twits, James and the Giant Peach and so many more, Roald Dahl’s creativity is stuck in hearts and minds – and in cinemas and theatres – all across the world. But beyond his literary works, the author’s legacy lives on in Roald Dahl’s Marvellous Children’s Charity, which was launched by Felicity Dahl shortly after her husband’s death in 1990.
Some 30 years on, the charity has funded 78 specialist children's nurses, who care for over 21,000 seriously ill children across the UK.. The children supported by the charity have conditions that don’t receive as much attention and support as others such as rare diseases, Sickle Cell Disease, Neuro-Muscular conditions and Epilepsy.
Roald Dahl’s Marvellous Children’s Charity has launched a Nurses Appeal to significantly increase the number of seriously ill children it reaches by providing more nurses and help them to continue to do their vital work alongside their NHS colleagues on the front line. The appeal will raise funds to provide essential equipment to ensure seriously ill children cared for by Roald Dahl Specialist Nurses can stay safe at home during the pandemic.
The Roald Dahl Nurses Appeal has already helped more than 80 families supported by the charity in Leeds by supplying essential monitoring equipment for children with Duchenne Muscular-Dystrophy to enable them to stay safe at home during the pandemic. Leeds is a city close to our heart. Not only do LifeSearch have a major business centre there, roughly half our workforce and their families are based in the great city. Without doubt there are big Roald Dahl fans among them.
So we’re immensely proud that, every time LifeSearch protect another family, we can support the vital work of Roald Dahl Specialist Nurses.
At this time, we’re championing the work of three major health charities and doing what little we can to thank and support health workers for the sacrifices they make - whether it’s on the front line or quietly and critically behind the scenes.
We’re also delighted to join the likes of Claudia Winkleman, David Walliams and Tony Robinson in flying the flag high for Roald Dahl’s Marvellous Children’s Charity. Dame Julie Walters, herself a former nurse, says it best: “every seriously ill child deserves a Roald Dahl Nurse.”
Now and into the future, we’re proud we can support the charity as they care for children often hidden from view. Here’s all the ways you can help too.
